Historic Cocoa Village

by Paul Huntington
With over 50 shops, restaurants, galleries and antique shops, Cocoa Village is a great place to spend the day browsing and shopping. This is a historic area of Brevard and was the small town of Cocoa on the main road to Miami, US Hwy 1. The old theater is still there and has been restored. It’s now used as a local playhouse with quality productions of Broadway plays.

You can step back in time and visit S.F. Travis Hardware Co. store (300 Delannoy Ave.). As a young man growing up, I remember if you wanted to find that impossible item that they didn’t make anymore, Travis was the place.

The old Brevard Hotel on the water which we use to frequent for Sunday Brunch is gone now and the footprint is replaced with a several story condominium. But you can imagine the past when the hotel was still there with it’s parked sail and power boats at the dock as they are today.

There is a great treed waterfront park still and the Cocoa Library adjacent. You can just relax or fish from its shore and paddle boat rentals are to be had for a water excursion.

Cocoa Village is a great day trip to shop in the morning, eat a gourmet lunch along the street midday, relax in the park in the afternoon or have a refreshing drink in one of the several bars, and even catch a play in the evening.
