One of our favorite parks on the Space Coast is located at Port Canaveral’s Atlantic Ocean outlet. At Jetty Park Beach & Campground, not only will you experience the white-sand beach and all the surf-side activities typical of this coastline but you will stroll along a 1,200-foot fishing pier as majestic cruise ships pass by – so close you feel like you could reach out and touch them.

And, don’t forget to take along a fishing pole and try your luck landing a redfish, snook or flounder from the pier or the beach. For an added bonus, plan your trip during a planned launch from Kennedy Space Center – the pier is also a favorite spot for locals to “rocket watching.”

Jetty Park campground has a choice of campsites from rustic to concrete pads with RV hook-ups and even offers small cabins with air-conditioning and all the comforts. Fair warning though, the cabins are popular and it is not easy to book one especially any time near a holiday.

One of my most memorable trips to Jetty Park was when our family camped overnight. Of course, we enjoyed the same daytime beach activities, but if you and your kids are looking for a lot of fun in the middle of the night then make sure you pack enough flashlights for everyone and set out for a ghost hunt on the beach or to be more precise – a Ghost Crab hunt!

The Atlantic coast Ghost Crab is nocturnal and can only be seen on the shoreline at night as it forages for food. No, we weren’t trying to catch one, we were just trying to catch a glimpse of one as it scurries at light speed from burrow to burrow. We weren’t sure if we were out of breath from running or laughing!

Check out this Jetty Park brochure that provides information on other wildlife found here.

Jetty Park AerialJetty Park does have well-kept facilities including bathrooms, snack bar, bait shop, boardwalk, paved parking, picnic tables and life guards that give plenty of notice of jellyfish and other swimmer concerns.

Keep in mind though that you will be paying for these facilities, as visitor’s pay $15 per vehicle at the gate.

You can visit the park’s website for more details.
